선량한 종교나 선량한 믿음이 나쁠리 없다. 그러나 의지와 집중이 개입하지 않은 채로 정신을 방치한 구복신앙과 같은 믿음은 단기적인 마취감만 줄 뿐 문제의 해결에 도움을 주는 집중력을 결여하기 때문에 장기적으로 파국을 예고하고 있을 것이다.

현재 북한과 한국의 정부 수반들은 빨리 이해해야 한다. 북한이 쇠퇴하는 전환점이 된 것은 정확한 탐구와 분석이 안된 경제정책 몇 건과 김정일 위원장의 퇴락적인 분위기가 결정적인 문제가 되었다. 한국도 현재 이런 상황을 겪고 있는 것은 한국민 누구도 부정할 수 없을 것이다.

구 소련이 무너지고 민주화 되어가는 소련의 전환기에 바르샤바 동맹군은 해체되었다. 당시 서방측에서도 빠르게 나토를 해체하든가 아니면 지구방위를 목적으로 나토를 존재하도록 결정하거나 러시아를 나토에 편입을 시켰으면 훗날 일어날 많은 분쟁들을 미연에 방지하지 않았을까 하는 아름다운 상상을 여러번 글로써 옮긴 적이 있었다. 요즘 김정은 위원장이 러시아에 북한군을 파병한다는 소문이 있어서 그때 그 일은 더욱 아쉽다.

과거 김정은 위원장이 집권을 할 당시부터 나는 우리 모두 김정은 위원장이 아직 젊었을 때 협상 테이블에 초대해야 된다고 꾸준하게 주장해 왔다. 그러나 지금 김정은 위원장은 시진핑 주석이나 푸틴 대통령처럼 나이가 만든 습관에 지배당하고 있는 것 같다. 만약 서방측은 민주진영이고 중국과 러시아는 독재진영이며 김정은 위원장도 당연히 독재진영속에 편입되어 서방측과 분열 대립해야 한다면 얼떨결에 비 이성적인 분열과 대립을 하는 것이다. 1인 집권체제에서는 집권자 1인의 생각이 매우 중요하다. 그러나 그 생각의 근원이 어리석게 시작 되었으면 어리석은 결과를 내 놓는다.

 

소련 분열 당시에 서방측은 러시아를 너무 크고 이념적인 대립 상대로 보았다. 그러나 결국 보이는데로 변해간 상황이 되었다. 북한 문제에 대해서도 그렇다. 바이든 행정부나 한국의 보수 정부가 이념 문제를 떠나서 계속적인 협상노력을 했으면 어땠을까 하는 후회가 생긴다. 결국에는 러시아와 북한이 군사적으로 결속한다는 드라마틱한, 그러나 결말은 매우 비극적일 수 있는 상황으로 치닫고 있는 것 같다.

잘못된 리더쉽과 본질

한강 작가의 노벨상 수상이 발표되자 한국의 보수 정부때 한강 작가를 블랙리스트에 올렸던 사실이 다시 한 번 회자되고 있다. 아마 이념적인 시각으로 한강 작가를 좌파 작가로 오인한 것 같다. 인간으로서의 보편적 정의감이나 도덕성등을 추구하는 작품은 좌파로 매도하는 것이 이념국가의 실태이다. 마르케스의 [100년 동안의 고독]도 중남미에 진출한 미국 다국적 기업의 문제점을 지적한 작품이다. 이념의 관점이 아니라 사회개혁의 관점으로 해석을 해야 한다.

 

내 인생에 나를 가장 괴롭혔던 흑역사는 법 공부를 했던 사실이다. 만약 그때로 돌아가서 다시 수험 생활을 해야 한다면 외무고시를 공부했을 것이다. 요즘도 외교통상부 건물을 보면서 어리석고 협소했던 지난날의 정신세계를 생각하면 눈물이 날 지경이다.

 

모두 그런 것은 아니지만 법률을 공부하는 사람들은 합법성을 도덕성으로 착각한다. 그래서 사회 정의에 위반한 일을 저질러도 그 일이 법적으로 문제 되지 않으면 선한 일이라고 생각한다. 그래서 법을 최대한 이용하여 개인적인 이익을 추구한다. 그런 현실을 잘 알기 때문에 현 정부가 탄생하기 전에 블러그 글로서 이 문제를 계속 거론했다. 검찰 집단에서 탄생한 정부의 끝이 안 좋을 것이라는 예측을 수없이 했다. 당사자들은 자신들이 리더쉽을 추구하겠다고 말하겠지만 리더쉽은 수직적 관계에서 탄생하는 것이 아니라 수평적 관계에서 탄생한다.

아니다. 오늘날의 조직내 리더쉽 문제는 리더쉽에 대한 낡은 사고방식으로는 해결할 수가 없다. 그 문제들을 해결하려면 조직 내 최대한 많은 사람들 때론 모든 사람들이 참여해야 한다.

 

2. 리더쉽은 개인적 사안이다.

 

아니다. 사실 리더쉽은 개인의 역량이기 보다는 하나의 시스템 내에 ‘분산되어 있는’ 집단적 능력이다. 리더쉽은 출현 하기를 바라는 미래를 감지하고 현실화하는 시스템 전체의 능력인 것이다.

 

3. 리더쉽은 비전을 만들어내고 전달하는 행위와 관련된 것이다.

 

아니다. 모든 리더쉽은 경청에서 시작된다. 생각과 가슴과 의지를 활짝 열고 타인의 말에 귀 기울일 줄 알아야 한다. 귀를 기울인다는 것은 밖으로 꺼낸 말은 물론이고 하지 않는 말까지 듣는다는 의미다. 모든 사람들의 내재된 요구와 열망에 귀를 기울여야 한다는 뜻이기도 하다.
