Korean Buses and the Nixon Administration

Yesterday, labor-management negotiations for buses in Gyeonggi Province were concluded, and the strike was dramatically withdrawn. In fact, the bus strike is a shocking incident. Buses are close to public goods like domestic water and electricity.

After I started bus driving, I predicted that the old-fashioned conservative behavior of the bus industry would suffer from discord with the environment and many moments of upheaval. In fact, buses in Gyeonggi Province operated buses with the characteristics of public goods in a private or market manner. Then, they felt limited and are speeding up the transition to quasi-public buses rather than Seoul buses. I, too, have long ago petitioned for the issue from the standpoint of bus drivers to Gyeonggi Province or suggested that officials be aware of the Gyeonggi-do bus problem using Internet blog. In reality, however, the bus industry was unable to maintain a conservative attitude in the face of the problem of a lack of bus drivers.

Seoul city buses are first semi-publicized and operated, but Seoul's village buses (neighborhood buses) have a big problem. However, because it is a densely populated area, the sense of crisis came slower than Gyeonggi-do buses because the number of bus drivers and the decrease in passengers did not proceed so rapidly. As far as I have worked in person, buses in Seoul were much more uncomfortable from the perspective of bus drivers and citizens. Even city buses in Seoul, which are considered the ultimate ideals for bus drivers, began to have difficulty in supplying bus drivers.

Problems must be recognized realistically. If you are confined to a narrow area, such as the world of ideology or the world of habits, you will be hit by a bigger problem. This is the same in international relations.

The Nixon administration in the United States opened a channel of communication with the Kremlin to prevent "judgment in anger" stemming from ideological conflicts. Kissinger mentions Nixon that "the essence of foreign policy is the ability to pursue long-term goals and build subtle differences." However, Nixon's attitude toward the Soviet Union was regarded as immoral to ideological conservatives, and the Watergate incident, a wiretapping incident caused by Nixon, made even the evaluation of Nixon's policy an immoral act.

In a world dominated by ideology, ideology can play a role like morality. However, Kissinger noted that American conservatives during the Nixon administration, who ridiculously evaluated the Soviet Union as immoral by strong ideological standards, tried to open a new way for China. It was unforeseen that China would be a greater danger if we came to think about it for a long time in the future.

Of course, Korean conservatives seem to be making subtle errors. Black-and-white logic can cause practical difficulties someday, not only in politics and diplomacy but also in living environments. In other words, future politicians must also have a sense of the field.
