North Korea - U.S.summit and a hard-line faction

It was a mistake for President Trump to bring Bolton to the North Korea-U.S. summit. Because the North Korea-U.S.summit was not originally aimed at dealing with the North hard. The hard-liners are those who don’t expect a negotiated settlement. President Trump must have brought Bolton in as a counter-horse to the originally hard-line North Korea. But there is always a big stir in what hard-liners do.

Was it necessary to try the king? The Gironde Party did not want this. It was because it would divide France, stimulate local public opinion and cause division within the party. There is something to blame for the king, too. But I believe it is legal and useful to rescue the king from where he is.

-omission-

On the other hand, Saint-Just and Robespierre wanted the king’s trial and death penalty. In their opinion, the king was not a defendant to be indicted and tried, but an enemy to be killed. In addition, they were thinking of digging a ditch between the Girond Party and ancien regime.

- [History of France] by Andre Maurois -

After the French Revolution, the moderate Grironde Party’s Danton was executed by the radical Party’s Robespierre. The Jacobin Party was carrying complaints from small citizens and workers on its back. And Jacobin’s party has sufficiently instigated a disgruntled class that has yet to subdue the excitement of the French Revolution.

The hard-liners think of the effects of agitation. Hard-liners are made from past experience or temperament. Bolton is believed to have been mindful of President Reagan’s hard-line policy that led the United States to dominate in the face of fierce competition with the former Soviet Union. Bolton must have also been mindful of President Bush’s hard-line policy of seeking advice from Protestant clergy to counter Islamic terrorism.

However, the North Korea-U.S.summit had many different conditions than that. The purpose was not to fight and win, but to induce North Korea to become a normal country and a market economy.

No matter how good an ideology, a successful politician is not fit for the post if he no longer fits his job. Churchill won World War 2 but lost the general election after Germany’s defeat. Because he was not fit for peace. I think Bolton may have been driven by too much by habit.
