블루오션과 보이콧(Blue Ocean and boycott)

인간과 사회가 보수적이면 레드 오션에서 산다. 능력은 혁신을 못 이긴다. 인간과 사회는 유동체로서 발전하는 것이 존재하는 것이다. 엄격히 표현하면 보수적인 마음은 소멸하고자 하는 마음이다.

If humans and society are conservative, they live in the Red Ocean. Ability doesn’t win innovation. Human and societies exist because they are fluid and they develop. Strictly speaking, a conservative mind is about to perish.

레드 오션에 빠진 기업들은 기존 산업 질서 안에서 방어적 포지션을 구축하여 경쟁자를 누르려는 전통적 접근 방법을 추구하였다. 그러나 놀랍게도 블루오션 창조자들은 경쟁자를 벤치마킹하지 않았다. 대신 이들은 필자들이 ‘가치혁신’이라 부르는 다른 전략적 논리를 추구했다. 가치혁신은 블루오션 전략의 초석이다.

경쟁자를 이기는 데 집중하는 대신 구매자와 회사를 위한 가치 도약을 이뤄 새로운 비경쟁 시장 공간을 창출함으로써 경쟁 자체에서 벗어난다. 우리는 이것을 ‘가치혁신’이라고 부른다.

The companies caught in the red ocean followed a conventional approach, racing to beat the competition by building a defensible position within the existing industry order. The creator of blue oceans, surprisingly didn’t use the competition as their benchmark Instead, they followed different strategic logic that we call value innovation. Value innovation is the cornerstone of blue ocean strategy.

We call it value innovation because instead of focusing on beating the competition, you focus on making the competition irrelevant by creating a leap in value for buyers and your company, thereby opening up new and uncontested market space.

보이콧이라는 말은 1880년 영국에서 처음 사용되었다. 이 말은 아일랜드의 지주대리인 캡틴 보이콧(1831-1897)이라는 사람의 이름에서 비롯되었다. 육군 대위였던 보이콧은 상당히 악덕한 사람으로 농민들의 배척을 받았으며 동업자들도 보이콧과의 일체의 거래를 중단하고 말았다.

The word boycott was first used in England in 1880. This word comes from the name of man named Captain Boycott(1831-1897), Ireland’s landlord representative. The former army captain was a very vicious man who was ostracized by farmers and partners.

국가가 보수주의적이면 혁신을 하지 못해 정체되고 그 다음에 소멸의 길을 걷게 된다. 국가가 총체적 악덕의 집합체이면 다른 국가들로부터 배척을 받는다. 일본은 이런 점들을 개선해야지 회생할 수 있다.

If a country is conservative, it becomes stagnant and then decays because it cannot innovate. If a nation is a collective of gross vice, it is ostracized from other countries. Japan needs to improve these points to revive them.
